PLANNING FOR 2024 ACTIONS

Fridays4Forests protectors have been meeting and sharing stories and ideas to help plan effective campaigns for the forests in 2024. Please find below, some of their thoughts. Get your diaries out protectors and get your local community busy on their own Fridays4Forests group;

• Letter writing Stalls: locate your local markets and reach out to your community. These Stalls will need Banners, Sign Up forms, Vox pops, and promotions of upcoming F4F actions eg. ‘March in March’. Video and photos needed for talking points at Stalls
• Fridays at your local member’s. A Sit In was suggested. Also, drop in letters
• Highway awareness raising banner hangs
• Direct Actions & Citizen Science surveys with Forest visits at least once a month
• More Social Media and other skill sharing workshops to become more effective communicators

Dates in 2024 to work towards:

• Womens Festival 8th March
• ‘March in March’. 24th March.  Celebrating the International Day of the Forests (March 21st). Banner making Workshop?
• Nimbin Mardigras May 5th
• Lismore Lantern Parade, 22nd June – ramp up our presence visually and audio. Using the same Lanterns etc as the Mardigras. Bearing in mind that the Lantern Parade does not allow any extra promos.
• Possible Rally for the Forests at Parliament House in Sydney with like minded groups like Rising Tide, Knitting Nannas and other Conservation groups eg. Coffs peeps. This would be time with a Sitting of both houses eg. May, 7 – 9th and World Environment Day, June 5th which is a full Sitting Day
• Song and Dance 4 Forests – TBA
• Rising Tide at Newcastle. 24th November(10,000 for 10 days of action). Need a large number to come from the Northern Rivers. Our area has suffered from Climate change impacts more than most. Last year, 7 brave folk went to Newcastle. It was amazing. Lets make it 70 in 2024!(Get it? 10 times the number?)
• *Direct Action – Richmond Range Citizen Science surveys at night to ascertain the Glider presence in these forests. Led by an ecologist, some will camp and survey.
